I am AMD loyal. I have had Intels, and they worked, but they never seemed to be able to push the envelope. I got my first AMD a few years ago, an eMachine with an Athlon 2000+. That little CPU was/is a beast. Yes, it is still in service as my wife's computer/media rig.
I moved up to a 64 bit 3200+, and now my X2 4200+. I am still in socket 939, but I hope to move to AM3 after it is out.
AMD shines in gaming, but it can hold its own in other apps as well. Intel has a definite advantage in encoding, but that is something that is bot done by a lot of people.
The current race between Intel and AMD is a good thing. It is driving both companies to develop better chips, which gives us consumers better choices.
