You probably already know that Norton, though an efficient security system IMO, is a resource hog. I wouldn't suggest dropping it if you still have time on your updates. However, once it runs out, you may want to consider something like NOD32. I changed over on my laptop and noticed quite a bit of difference.
Disclaimer: I think that Norton does a good job, better than a lot, but there are lighter fighters that have better ratings in independent tests (like the ESET NOD32, one of my favorites now).
