Laptop Question relating to sound

I just bought an Emachines Laptop off Ebay, and I can't even rock out to my mp3's cause the sound on here is so horrible, so my question is, is there an external 5.1 sound card I could buy to a) have the whole home theater expierence on my laptop and b) just be able to have the clarity in the music I have on my harddrive?

Any help with this would be greatly appriciated.

well the speakers on a laptop thereselves are that good, thats probably the biggest problem with laptops. i would suggest a usb soundcard or a pcimcia sound card there better, but with those you will need external speakers or headphones.
