hey people, wondering if you guys could give me advice on which graphics card to get, powercolour x800 gto 16 or chaintech 6600gt:

i know the x800 is better then the 6600gt but ive only got a sempron 3100+ ocd to 2.2 ghz, 1gb ram:

1) i was mainly wondering would the cpu be a bottleneck with the x800 and therefore render it pointless (as x800 gto 16 is quite high end compared to sempron right) or will i see quite a big improvement over the 6600gt?

2) how much extra is it worth paying for the x800 over the 6600gt?(id only consider myself a casual gamer-is the 6600gt more than good enough for that?

thankyou oh wise ones...

For some reason...i've never heard of these models before^^; Huh.

Well i did some comparisons for them. I'd go with the GeForce 6800 instead of the chaintech 6600gt. The 6800 has a 256-Bit Memory Interface which is terrific as opposed to the 6600 that is 128-bit. Both cards are all GDDR3 so good choosing there.

You have a Sempron? I'm not sure if your processor will be able to catch up with the rendering from the advanced graphics card. I do see where a bottleneck is potential.

If price is an issue than you should go with the 6600. The x800 model...it looks good too but if you can, try to get some detailed specs on them. More importantly, see if either card won't be too big for your PCI Slot.

too big?? really, that actually happens??! lol. youd think theyd make them all a standard size..

yeh that was my concern, well it was only between the two i mentioned really, as i could get both quite cheap secondhand,(6600gt for £40, x800 gto16 for £65) and i dont have that much money right now..
but thanks for the advice, man, youve brought up some interesting considerations...

Oh yea, especially these newer 512MB video cards that are released today, now size is an issue for most MB's and their cases. These cards have HUGE fans and sinks that takes up two PCI slots. The bigger the memory size, the bigger the card becomes itself.

It's just something to be aware when you are upgrading components of your computer. Not everything is getting smaller in physical size...sometimes an item may get bigger to accomidate for the newer size/features.
