I know I've done it, but just don't know how I did it so I can undo it....anyway....

I used to be able to watch videos, like YouTube, or Google videos (which I have a couple there). Now I can't.

I use FireFox and recently installed "no script". I also recently bought QuickTime Pro. I'm using Windows XP Pro.

Whenever I start to watch a video, the big "Q" comes up like QuickTime is going to play it. Then it will dim out and a question mark come up in the center of the "Q".

So, did I make a wrong setting on "no script" or on QuickTime? Any solutions?

Dave

Set something besides Quicktime as your default media player (why, o why did you buy Pro???). Only have QT set as default for the formats made for it.

Update your Java, Flash, and Shockwave, just to be sure.

Give the sites permission through NoScript, and you ought to get video. I also use Flashblock, so the videos can't start until I click on the arrow for it.

I bought the QuickTime program because I use it so much.

I tried to make Windows Media Player the default player, but it seems that QuickTime has taken over.

Any suggestions on how to make it just play QT stuff?

Dave

Hi Dave

You may need to uninstall QuickTime "for a short time" and make sure all registry entires for Quick Time are removed via reg edit then you should be able to set WMP to default or it will set its self, when you reinstall Quick Time don't allow it to associate with WMP functions, this will mean you will need to manually open Quick Time when you want to use it, this is how i have run different Media Players, ATM i use KM Player for Video.
hope this may help

I went into the QuickTime preferences and unchecked it as the player for everyything except QT stuff. I'll reboot and see if that does it. If not, it might be time to uninstall and reinstall.

I Quite like the VideoLAN VLC Plugin for firefox. It dosen't give you any playback options, but it will play back any format under the sun.

Just using the QT preferences, and then going in and telling WMP to be the default player didn't do it. Gee! Looks like I'll have to do an uninstall and install.

I un-installed QuickTime. Then when I went to the sites, the FF browser window said that I needed another plug-in. If you guessed QT, then you guessed correctly.

So, I've done the following:
  1. Updated players
  2. Made WMP the default
  3. Made all QT stuff just to work with QT stuff (makes sense)
  4. Un-installed QT
  5. Updated FF browser and plug-ins
  6. Got frustrated because I still can't play the YouTube and Google videos, even the ones I uploaded!
  7. Waiting for more help on this.
Okay, so how about some more suggestions!

The main thing that happens at the time being is that when I go to a site that has a video, the QuickTime symbol will appear. A few seconds later, it dims out and a question mark (?) shows in the symbol. Then I can NOT view the video.

Also, I'm ticked off at this. So give me some patience with that answer.

Dave
