Hey guys, sorry .. but here it is:

Since 2005 I have moved away from Windows to the Mac, and with the Mac moving towards Intel and the Mac Pro being with me since 2006 - I have 100% moved over. Except for vmware fusion with xp/vista for IE6/IE7/IE8 testing.

Ok, I admit, I have XP installed as dual boot so I can play CS:S, but I just realized that I played it twice and really don't use it.

Who else here has moved away from Windows?

I moved away and never looked back!

I still run Windows through VMWare for browser testing for work, and I dual-boot for a couple games. But there's nothing in the world that'll make me switch back!

I have nothing against MacOS X, &/or Linux distro variants... they've all come along QUITE nicely (especially Linux, because when I used it back in Slackware distro 1.02 circa 1994? Whoosh... it was CRUDE!)

No longer the case though...

HOWEVER? Why should I change from Windows, when I can secure it to be "110% bulletproof & bugfree", per this guide:

HOW TO SECURE Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003 & even VISTA, + make it "fun to do" via CIS Tool Guidance:

http://www.thenewtech.com/forums/ope...03-vista-3550/

?

No reason to change here... not really!

I support MacOS X & even Linux on the job daily, & they have come a LONG ways, but where are the monies to be made typically? Windows!

Both on a development front (I have been a professional coder since 1994 & professional network adminstrator since 1995 as well) & Windows just plain gets more support on that front, especially for drivers for peripheral hardwares & yes, for having more softwares available for more purposes (as well as multiple choices for any given task thereof as well).

(You do Win32? Your "surface area of employment" is just greater, since it TRULY IS, the world's MOST USED OS PLATFORM THERE IS, & on the MOST USED HARDWARE PLATFORM THERE IS for Personal computing, in x86!)

I mean, face it - combined, from home end-user rigs, thru departmental servers, up thru "mission critical/enterprise class servers"? Windows is there, all the way through that strata... yielding more possible levels of employment.

APK

P.S.=> Want to be more employeable? Well, if you want to fish, you have to go where the fish are... & largely guys, that's Windows! apk

That's simply because Windows IS "twice as good": LOL!

(Hey - Feel free to "argue with the numbers" I noted above (as far as what is the most used Operating System platform there is, bar-none, on the MOST USED HARDWARE PLATFORM THERE IS for Personal computing, bar-none))...

Anyhow... The fact is, there is more 'surface area' for employment by using Windows, because it is the most used OS there is on the most used hardware platform there is for personal computing (up to servers) IS just a fact!

(& it extends from home/end users to those on client nodes on LANs/WANs, thru departmental servers, all the way up to "mission critical" enterprise-class scenarios (such as NASDAQ, where Windows Server 2003 runs literally somewhere very nearly approaching the 99.999%/"fabled 5-9's" levels of uptime rated in fact, as the officlal disseminator of trade data in fact FROM NASDAQ))

(As well as Windows' wealth of surrounding peripheral softwares base (of which there is ALSO MORE OF vs. other OS platforms also - especially considering the home-user/end-user base (gaming, as a SINGLE example, anyone? That's just for starters too, & there alone it is MILES above the others in terms of choices)).

Well, ok - I won't consider it an argument: I'll consider it enlightening you is all! That is, in case you weren't aware of the basic & commonly accepted facts from above I stated.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but, didn't YOU, state this verbatim?

Moving back are we? Why is that?? Finding out that doing things on Windows sometimes has NO comparable & equally useable alternates on others platforms??? Honestly, I have seen that SO many times, it is unreal (inclusive of myself no less - the closest I came to switching was Os/2 2.1- 3.0 Warp back during Win3.x/DOS days circa 1993-1995)... why'd I come back??

For the reasons I just stated!

APK

P.S.=> I found out there was SO MUCH MORE SOFTWARE for Windows vs. others & of better/higher quality (purely a relative term there though), I had to come back... apk

P.S.=> It's just my pic Cat-Tranz... Oh, I tried to get ahold of DaveMo~, but he is "out of the office" as-of-late! Oh well, that's ok, because he liked what that post had in it, & was one of the folks to comment on it as "Good info." iirc... apk
