Hi ... sorry for the long title but I'm still learning regarding working with videos for the web.

Anyway, here's the story:

Had Nero 7, bought Canon Camcorder. Was able to get video's onto computer and turn into MPEGs with zero problem using Nero Vision.

Upgraded to Nero 8; cannot get video's onto computer. Nero 8 will start to pull the video from the camcorder, gets about 1/3 through and then gives me an error -- something about Nero has encountered an error and will shut down (that's not verbatim) and it reference an .exe file. After clicking "OK", Nero shuts down.

I have uninstalled Nero, ran clean-up, reinstalled. I have reformatted my entire hard drive and reinstalled Nero. No matter what I do, this bugger won't work. I also contacted Nero 3 days ago and have yet to receive a reply. I'm thinking of asking for a refund.

So I have a few questions:
1. Anyone else have Nero 8 and have problems? If so, does anyone know now to fix this?

2. Does anyone recommend another software that is more reliable for grabbing video's off a camcorder to put on your computer for editing?

And apologies for any ignornance here...still learning regarding video for the web and have only used Nero 7 previously.

Thanks, Cat-tranz, I'll give their free trial a whirl and see how I like it.

I've been thinking about going back to Nero 7, too. I don't mind paying for software, but when it doesn't work...arg! Frustration!

I did finally hear back from Nero; they gave me a .cab file to run - odd thing was, after running it, Nero worked once. I did a second try just to be sure and was right back to the problem. Frustrating.

I upgraded to Nero 8, but have not had any difficulties. If the .cab file worked once, you might want to ask the Nero techs if that was a permanent file. Supposedly, once it's added, it should stay.

Can you give more info on your OS and PC?

What anti-virus are you running? And do you have some malware protection?

Sure, Dave, happy to. I'm running Win XP Pro and use Avast anti-virus on my computer. I had just reinstalled Windows, too when I purchased Nero 8.

I'm still waiting for a response from Nero regarding that cab file. I was so excited when it worked but then it wouldn't again, even with the cab file on the computer.

Thanks for the link, Cat-tranz, I checked it out and seem to have all the requirments. Looked over Video Edit Magic, too and that sounds like some awesome software - never heard of it before and wish I would have before I bought Nero 8. If a person runs two video editing software packages (as in if I buy Video Edit Magic, too) can they conflict?

When you install unchecked any start menu boxes, or stop from running via (msconfig) > To use msconfig > Click start > Run > type msconfig . click OK > click startup tab now un tick any programs you don't want to start at startup > click apply > OK > reboot. - You will see a message tick "don't show message again", click OK. You should have no conflicts

Finally heard back from Nero again; they're telling me to do a complete uninstall of Nero 8, use their clean tool and reinstall.

Grief how I hate all this fooling around, but I'll give it a try. Thanks everyone again, for all your help.

Okay DaveMo...here's the latest:

Received reply e-mail telling me to use their clean tool (this was the 3rd time now) to uninstall and a link to use to reinstall a new copy of Nero. Did it all, same errors.

I then downloaded a trial version of Video Edit Magic and that simply won't read my camera at all. As soon as I click the "Capture" button, I get a pop up saying no device is found. Kind of making me wonder if there isn't isn't a glitch with my camera, but the computer is finding it when I plug in the USB, I checked all my drivers, everything is in order and I have the latest version of Direct X, so I'm really perplexed.

I haven't tried Nero 7 again since this started because I'm using it on my desktop and am not sure I can run it on two computers. This is getting majorly frustrating. And of course, Canon, the maker of my camera, says it's the software not the camera.
