I thought I had asked this, but didn't find it. So, here it is (maybe again)...

I'm running Windows XP Pro and I have a 90gig harddrive partitioned into a 15gig C: and a 75gig D:.

What is the best way to get rid of the partition, or to move more of the HD to the C: drive instead of the D: drive? Is the best way the easiest way?

Need more info?

Dave

if you go into disk management in the administrative tools you can manage your partitions there - i take it your D drive is for storage? back it up, as i believe the only thing you can do is delete the 75 gig partion and repartition the rest of the space. the only way to add more to your active partition is when you install.

Quick answer! Yes, D: was for data. I should have made C: larger because of all the updates. Anyway...

I was just looking into the Computer Management > Disk Management cp. Deleting the partition is the easy part. I'm still trying to figure out adding that into the C: drive.

i'm guessing the only way to do it is a long rout round make the 75 gig into two partitions, load one with another XP, mark that active, reassign the drive letters (i think you can do that - at least this seems logical to me), re-boot into the new active partition, and do what you want with the two partitions that are left - this seems like a mammoth effort to me

No need to delete anything, most partition management programs have the (merge partition option, freeware and retail) C: will become one partition, easy .

I'll take the easy route; so what's the 3rd party apps that will do that?

I've got some more reading to do. I remember the top one on their list now, Cute Partition Manager. I've used Cute stuff in the past and it rang a bell.

Thanks for that url.
