Dear fellow members,
I seek information about the problem of which I am having in getting an old PS/2 keyboard operating in a newer computer.

The Computer in question, a Acer Aspire, its keyboards letters have come off, and I have tried to plug in a keyboard of which I have kept from an older computer.

The keyboard it came with, was a USB keyboard, where as this old one I am now using is a PS/2 keyboard.

The problem that I am having is, when I fire up the computer, both of the Caps lock and Scroll lock indicators are operating, but I can not unlock them, nor can I put on the num lock.

It was working for a little while yesterday, but only after restarting the computer a few times. And this morning, it is playing up again.

I am now using another PS/2 keyboard in the same computer without a problem.

I guess that there must be a fault with the other PS/2 keyboard.

Does anyone know what the problem is?

I had similar problems (just with the numlock) when trying to use an older keyboard. I thought it may just be the keyboard, and with the relative inexpensive, new keyboards available, I bought a new one.

If it was working and then quit, and then works again, I'd think the problem might be that the older keyboard is worn out. There's a key matrix below the keyboard that may be not "connecting" with those certain keys and then at other times it is "connecting".
