The thread Dave made about MS VS Express being free made me think up this thread

What's your favorite text editor? Mine's still got to be EditPlus. I've tried a lot of others, almost 'converted' a few times, but always manage to go back into EditPlus.

If I were on a Mac, I think I'd fall in love with TextMate. I haven't seen a simple text editor on Windows that offers the same kind of thing.

I like NoteTab. It seems to have all the pluses of more expensive ones but the pro version is only $19.95. There's also a "lite" version that is free.

Yeah, I've always like NoteTab Lite; it has way more features than Notepad and a lot of other comparable editors, plus it's free!

I edited things remotely through a terminal for a long while and got used to using EMACS. Now I use the windows version locally for a lot of things.

I've always used NotePad, and quite enjoyed it. I never really gave thought to using something else. Although some more features might be nice. Maybe I should look around and check out some new text editors . . .

Notepad is useless. Even for non programmers. It doesn't even read Linux line endings

I downloaded metapad and use it as my Notepad. It's what Notepad should be.

Anyway, I've started using Zend Studio for my PHP work now. It's slow and clunky, but once it has started it's okay An IDE is required IMO when the project becomes huge (DeskPro that I'm working on now is huuuuge, so I would have been totally lost without the tools Zend has). I still use EditPlus for little quick things.

Does Zend Studio have parsing/local script execution built in?
