I like the concept, although any amount of DDR ram worth plugging into this thing is going to cost a fortune. Personaly though, I would like to see hard drives go this route with a better backup system.

The continuous use of RAM to store large amounts of data for extended use can physically ware it out. So eventually, you would have to buy another and another. And I agree, the drive is cheap (which in most cases is), but the actual equipemtn used with it is often expensive. Especially, if it is in Gbs of RAM.

As back-up, this is good. But costly.

Static data storage devices (SDSD) are already around. I prefer them as they don't scratch, can hold considerable amounts of data (500Gb +) and make no noise. They do have the problem at the moment of being slightly slow on the serial bus. But I am sure it will gain speed in time.
