I have MSN Messenger and I can register a Yahoo mail account to use it. That was a cool feature in itself, something I couldn't do with Yahoo Messenger. But I read that Windows Live Messenger allows users to send messages to a Yahoo contact, that is, WLM to YM and vice versa. I don't know, though, if one can leave offline messages with WLM. Has anyone tried using this new messenger?

What is the difference? Is WLM a stand-alone program or web-based? I have intentionally kind of buried my head in the sand on these Live products from Microsoft so far.

I haven't tried it yet but I gather it is the new MSN Messenger. I am not interested in the other products either, except for the messenger since I use MSN Messenger (sometimes). They are doing a good thing at integrating services. One other good feature of Windows Live Messenger must be the capability to share folders. I am still not sure about offline messages, so maybe I should just try it out one of these days.

I tried out Windows Live messenger once, but I was not a fan at all. I much prefer Google Talk. So I haven't been following up on the new developments in messenger programs.

I have 2 computers, and I use Live for one of them. From what I remember, you can leave messages while the contact is offline.

I agree that I prefer Google Talk. It will keep the logs like it does the emails.

Maybe Google Talk is better, but my contacts either use MSN or Yahoo messenger clients. By the way, I have confirmed my earlier question about offline messages and it is now possible with MSN Live.

I use Trillian, so it really doesn't matter which service. I don't like all the fancy stuff that is in the real programs anyway.

It's ok. I find it buggy though, it lags and freezes a bit too often for me, but it's free so I can complain.
