Identifying hardware

What is the easiest way to identify your hardware without opening the case? Can you identify it enough to answer compatability issues?

Using the Device Manager can give you an outline of your system. Also, MS's "System Information" app (Start->Run->msinfo32.exe) gives you lots of useful information about your current setup.

Yes, I also use the device manager or system information. There are softwares I have used which would also show the system hardware details, I just can't remember where I have seen it. When I try to look up a device, sometimes it just says "generic" and no further details are given. So what I do is I refer to the hardware's box and manual.

ON a side note, you can identify a lot of information about your computer and how it operates by opening up the Microsoft Management Console and opening up its individule console apps.

Try searching your machine for *.msc files
