I find it really anoying how quickley dust gathers up inside my computer case. I just had a little look through the window and there is a really thick layer of it at the bottom of my case. Not so long ago i got the hoover in there to suck it all up, looks like im going to have to do it again.
any of you have the same problem, and maby any ways to try and reduce the amount that gathers inside?

Yep. I don't know many ways to combat this, just a fact of leaving your computer on I suppose There are a kind of foam screening filter that goes over the air intake fans that reduce the amount of dust, you might want to look into something like that.

Then there's always getting rid of the reliance of air cooling altogether with liquid cooling.

I use one of those high pressure air cans to blow out the dust (just moves it somewhere else I guess). It obviously does not prevent the problem though.

How often do you remove dust from your CPU? I don't like touching anything inside lest I break something, but once I did try dusting the ribbons and stuff with tissue paper.

It helps if you put your computer at an elevation where it gathers dust the least.

Depending on the use you give to your computer, i'd clean it once every two weeks or once a month. Air cans are very effective and using the straw will help get in the deep areas.

Air cans are good, but I don't really like paying a premium for compressed air. I have a little dust-devil vac not the little one but the bigger one with extension and such, and I can reverse the air flow and use that to blast out my computer. I usually do it when I work on it.

Probably every 3-6 months. I would not make a special trip to do it, unless it has been well over a year and depending on how dusty your enviornment is. My home is very dusty, but still wouldn't need to get a thorough dusting more than once a year if it were ignored.

I probably inadvertently cleaned it every 3-6 months too; I never had any problems with it...it was fairly dusty..

Is there any idea as to how to dust without the air cans? Is there another way. I am afraid to have those around with kids in the house.

Yeah I talked above about using a vacuum cleaner. Can use the hose attachment and just suck or blow out the dust.

Works for me.

And safe for the kids!

I've never personally tried this, but have heard that affixing a small piece of panty hose over the outside of your fan inlets acts as a filter and helps keep the dust from getting in.

I'm not sure if it would interfere too much with the air flow, though, so I'd use caution if you're dealing with an overclocked machine.
