You can slipstream SP2 with SP1 and make a bootable OS Disk (its not hard hun) there are a few tutorials around about this and this one is one of the better ones > Slipstreaming a Service Pack Cindy X

The forum you linked answers the question by suggesting that applying 'slipstream' would fix the problem. I discovered the same thing last night, and it does work.
Here's a 'how to' link: Paul Thurrott's SuperSite for Windows: Slipstreaming Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) It doesn't take much to do and works like a charm. In fact I upgraded my SP1 to SP2 with my new XP SP2 CD this morning and it's all good. So when I go to set up my new machine (tomorrow hopefully) I'll have the right stuff to do it. I also downloaded the WD Data Lifeguard piece and have a bootable CD and floppy of its tools. Apparently it takes 2 hours to format a 500gb WD drive the normal way, but only a few minutes with their tool. So it looks like I'm good to go. Thanks you so much for your help and guidance - I really appreciate it! Ken
