I've been thinking of getting an external harddrive for a couple of reasons. One is to move large files between un-networked computers and two is for storage of backups.
What's your experience with external harddrives? Any recommendations? I've thought about getting this Maxtor OneTouch since I've had a smaller Maxtor external and several Maxtor internals. Thoughts? Also, I like the USB 2.0 and it's a 3.5" drive. Dave ![]()

Yeah, I have a Maxtor OneTouch 250GB. It works for me pretty good.

Well it makes full use of the USB 2.0. I couldn't tell you exact figures, but it isn't slow.

It's not going to be as fast as internal hard drive, but it's not slow enough to be problematic. I suppose it depends on how much data you're moving and how often. If you're going to want to shift 20GB every day, an external drive (be it on USB 2.0 or Firewire) is not for you.

An external hard drive is going to be my next purchase. I have my machine, and two kids machines at home...need to back up. I also have over just under 45k pics on my hdd that definately need backing up since about half of them are scans of pics that don't exist anymore!!
