I recently just got a job selling computers and i really do not know anything about them. I know my way around an OS, but i dont really know the inner workings. Can anyone give me some help with good and bad specs relating to processor, memory, video cards, and anything that may be helpful when talking to someone who doesnt know a whole lot about PCs?

There's a lot of reading here that can help you with that, too. Please feel free to read, ask questions, and get those answers.

BTW, welcome.

I always try to impress upon people that Computers aren't magic, they're only machines and have a bunch of moving parts and electronic components. The End.

Too many people see PCs etc. as non understandable boxes of stealth technology, which is just not the case - a couple of sites which might be illuminating :

http://www.pcguide.com/ref/index.htm

http://compreviews.about.com/od/gene...ter_Basics.htm

(to find these, I simply googled "what are the components of a PC" and got approx 50 million returns, so a bit of judicious research should help you out)

Yeah i did a quite a bit of googling and this was one of the sites that came up. I figured asking real people would be a better way of going about it because of the different responses that i could get. Kind of putting myself in the buyers shoes. Thank you for the responses.
