Vista has been delayed again as of last month, the planned release is of January of 2007. Both versions the 32 and 64 bit will be released......maybe >.> Either way, there's no rush to get them. Windows XP Pro is still very reliable.

Yeah I am definately not planning to upgrade right away. I did not upgrade from Windows 98 until 2002-2003.

I miss 98. I feel like Windows was at their prime with 98. My dad, however, jumped on the ME bandwagon, upgraded, and . . . our computer didn't do so well. It's just a bad program. In fact, my college banned the OS from student computers if they're using the residential network. They can use 98, or any other system, just not ME.

I'm happy enough with XP . . . . I plan to wait a few months after Vista is released, just to make sure it's working okay before I make the commitment to upgrade.

Windows Vista Beta 2 is great! We have it on one of our systems and I am getting ready to install it on one of the laptops. I am contemplating putting it on this desktop but not sure yet. When we first installed it, we couldn't get drivers for the motherboard but they have cured that issue now. And there is one security software program out there for it. But it is a SWEET o/s and getting the beta 2 release on DVD gives you access to the RC1 release as well. Liz

Yuck...98...ME?^^; Well ME wasn't THAT bad compared to 98...but still. XP is still a very good OS. I'll wait till service pack 2 of Vista comes out and when all the basic bugs missed in the Beta stages have been cleared.

Doesn't Vista take up a buttload of RAM? Or is it only the BETA version?

No, Vista does require a minimum of 1GB Ram.

A lot of people just look at the new fancy GUI and think it's automatically better, but honestly, the core system has been improved quite a bit from what I can see. Though I am disappointed that some of the major features that were supposed to be part of this release didn't make it (like the new file system). At least we can catch them later and install them easily.

MS is taking a new approach to the way they develop their software, every feature is a kind of "module" that can just be plugged in. This means that there will be less major releases (ie. Win 98 -> Win XP), but more minor releases that will add new features (ie. that new file system). So I hope this new technique will help reduce the number of bugs, decrease the time between new feature releases, and up the community moral towards Microsoft.
sweet! i wonder if they'll offer promotional price for this one
