Ubuntu contains all the applications you'll ever need, from word processing and email applications, to web server software and programming tools also has graphic applications, Ubuntu contains only free software applications, downloads as an ISO image to be burnt to a CD, once burnt to Disk it can be run live or installed to a Hard Drive, Ubuntu has its own Boot Loader called Grub.
I have use Ubuntu and found it very pleasant and easy to use, probably the easiest Linux to use and i would recommend it to anyone interested in trying a Linux based Operating System. Ubuntu is an African word meaning 'Humanity to others', or 'I am what I am because of who we all are'.

I need hep though. I want to change my desktop resolution, but when I choose "1280x1024" it sets the refresh rate at 50Hz, which my monitor won't like and won't display. I need it at 60Hz.

How do I do this?

Sounds odd ? CRT Monitors should be set to 60Mhz and TFT 70 Mhz you should be able to go in to properties and select the rate FR , what is your Monitor ? and do you have any software for it ?

I've got a ubuntu live CD (I use to use it a lot), the only problem is my wireless driver is not compatible, so I kept using XP.

I have Mandriver 2008 on my #2 Computer but i have not had any problems with getting on line --- Yet

I like KUbuntu, personally... for some reason!

(& I think it is because I come out of Windows based OS now the past decade or so (had a brief "stint w/ Os/2 in the 90's is why, took a "small windows break"), & KDE seems more like Windows than Gnome does (kicker bar = start bar, etc.)).

SeLinux is also in the "Hardy Heron" release!

(& that appeals to me, because I am into keeping a system going vs. attacker/hackers/crackers on Windows via "system hardening for security")

P.S.=> I'll be giving it a go here again, once I pickup my next system (which will be next year @ some point, this one's already nearing 3 yrs. old & I buy every 4-5 yrs. new (that way, I get systems that nearly DOUBLE the power/speed of the last one - I gave up on the "upgrade trap" largely, years ago (lol, except for video cards, those still "get me"))... apk
