Has anyone used Solaris? Sun makes the claim that it is the most advanced operating system on the planet however when I burned it to dvd and tried to install all I got was an error stating that it did not appear to be a UDF file system (or something of that nature). This does not seem so advanced. (I know, I'm being a bit sarcastic).

Anyways, what are all your thoughts on Solaris?

is indeed an obscene claim.

Operating Systems, particularly unix and linnux based are advanced/proficient/(whatever you want to call it) at specific areas.

It is very hard to compare Mac OSX with Windows Server 2003, for example, they boast specific, non-related features.
If Solaris is what they claim it is, it would have to be advanced at everything. Sun is in no position to make this claim, nor is mircosoft, apple, or the creators of any linux, unix or BSD distribution under the sun (excuse the pun).

Solaris is hardly any use to you if it has the worlds most advanced networking features, if you never intend to connect it to a network.

The question is, what do you look for in your operating system. Upon answering this question, there will be a suitable OS for you, be it Windows, OS X, a Linux or Unix or even Solaris.

The fact that Solaris threw an error is humoring, however if you end up choosing a linux, unix or BSD distribution your bound to run into a few stumbling blocks on the way.

I use Suse 9.3 Pro normally however I like to try new things every once in a while. That claim kind of turned me off from Solaris though.
