I've had this happen a couple of times and I got it fixed, but I really don't know how I did it.

My laptop, running Windows Vista, had the screen saver quit coming on. I've reset how much time and applied it. I've also done the test when in the desktop properties box and it worked. But for some reason, when the 10 minutes is up, the screen saver is NOT coming on.

Any ideas?

Are you using a wireless Mouse or Keyboard or both Dave ? try swapping then see if your Screen saver cuts in

I'm using a wireless mouse. I was wondering if that might keep the processor thinking that it's doing something. I'll unplug the wireless mouse when done this evening and see if the screen saver kicks back in.

I don't think so, I used to have a wireless mouse and my screensaver would come on. It only does something if you click a button or move the mouse.

I unplugged my wireless mouse, well, unplugged the USB receiver, and my screensaver came on in the allotted time and the power plan kicked in as it should.

So, I plugged it back in and the screensaver didn't work. Unplugged it again, and it worked.

I'm trying to find the link to the update that they were talking about in that link Cat posted.

P.S.=> This guy Jim I worked with @ one point had this flipped out mouse that once you attached it to a system? The thing would NOT bootup, nothing, not even "beep codes" from the PC Speaker... was odd!

He'd go pulling that trick on our fellow co-workers/colleagues (as everyone had the same mice, ACER rigs too) & they'd "flip out"!

Then he tried it on me (& I wasn't aware of it) & he said "can you get this machine working?" & I was like "WTF??"

& Then I did the old trick of pulling things off the rig, until it was just keyboard & then it started & he was like "How'd you know?" I was like "Ah, ancient chinese secret Danielsan" (I got lucky, lol)...

Still, was WAY odd, have not seen the like since...

Still, this is "new information" for me, on USB peripherals stopping a screensaver... thanks Cat (so it is NOT a "wasted day" (live & learn etc.)), I would have thought it was some background app running that prohibited screensavers starting (there are those)... apk

Update:

I did the updates from Windows and my mouse no longer interferes with my screensaver and power manager. Yeah!
