You don't have to use 6 floppy disks "its only the Windows load sequence", see the notes at the bottom of the page in the link i gave you >

Microsoft has released a file that creates Boot Disk Floppies for installing Windows XP. There is a special version for Home Edition and for the Professional Edition. I didn't attempt this as it required 6 floppy disks. However, this (and booting from CD) gives more options in the Setup program, such as formatting your C Drive with NTFS or FAT32 or converting the drive to NTFS.
The load sequence is at the beginning of all Windows OS`s, CD, DVD, Downloaded.

If you're trying to jump the OS from Windows 98 to Windows XP, well, even Microsoft doesn't advise that.

I have an old computer with Windows 98 SE on it and was going to change over to XP. Microsoft advised me not to do it on the older computer without some major changes. Instead of major changes, it would be better to build another computer.

If you want a backup OS in case something goes very wrong why not just make a complete copy of your existing OS using something like ATI 11, if your OS fails you can load the copy and everything will work
