I switched over to FF being my default awhile back. I was one of those holdouts, too! The last 4 months or so have been pretty good with FF.

I really do think that it was a problem on Google's end after all that I did.

Really? I never have. I'm amazed at how many of my friends have converted to Mozilla in the past 2 or 3 years and have been almost completely happy. Admittedly, I have had a few random cache issues, although they haven't been as problematic with the new version of Firefox.

It took me awhile to convert to FF, but once I did it, I had less problems than with IE (and I was also using Pop-up stoppers and ad breakers, and all kinds of stuff with my IE). I'll ocassionally use IE but it's because some of the sites I visit require IE.

FF didn't take that long to get used to, and I'm glad I made the change with it as my default.

I've really only had to temporarily go back to IE for downloading large audio files. I'm a freelance audio transcriber, and I download almost all of the files I eventually transcribe. However, some of them are 2-3 hour lectures, and so obviously are huge. For some reason, Mozilla occasionally has problems handling huge files, whereas IE downloads them with less hassle. I just installed the newer version of FF, though, so maybe that will work better.

Sometimes when you click a link, there are those moments that Windows will automatically open up an IE window even if you have FF set as the default browser. I could have sworn you were able to remove IE from Windows XP. I know you can't on a 95 and 98 That's just asking for a unstable crash!

I don't think it's a good idea to remove IE. It's a core piece of the OS. Many third party programs use IE controls, too. Even things like the windows help (chm) files use IE IIRC.

Yes, I'm not even sure that there's a failproof "easy" way of uninstalling IE; they should have allowed you to...but we all know how Microsoft works

I was told that it was impossible to remove IE from your computer. Although I haven't tried very hard . . . it seems like a better idea to just leave it be. Plus, as I said, I need it from time to time. And I'm just too lazy to run around and figure out how to do it.

Tis Impossible. Built into the kernel. Unless you do want to use Windows at all, you're stuck with it.
