Hey, my laptop(Hp pavilloin dv9000, with vista) is extremly slow.....ive got a 160gb HD, 1gb ram, AMD Turion 64 x2.......why is this slowing down.....how do i keep it real fast?!?! startup up sucks the boot and loading desktop with total care advisor and other crap!!!

What ver of Vista are you running ? and two things what Security do you have installed and how many processes do you have running ?

You probably already know that Norton, though an efficient security system IMO, is a resource hog. I wouldn't suggest dropping it if you still have time on your updates. However, once it runs out, you may want to consider something like NOD32. I changed over on my laptop and noticed quite a bit of difference.

Disclaimer: I think that Norton does a good job, better than a lot, but there are lighter fighters that have better ratings in independent tests (like the ESET NOD32, one of my favorites now).

I also suggest looking over the Vista thread.

Have you run any malware removers?

i have limited nortons auto access to a bare minimum and i have ran 2 or 3 spyware and malware programs...lol i think if i drop the boot.ini I think it might help

Norton has many under running processes "forget the £ just dump it and you will need > This because just removing as normal wont get rid of all of it, as Dave says its a big system hog. 89 processes !!! , i have Vista Ultimate on a dual boot and processes running are 36 "i have removed all the MS junk" you need to thin down your processes see > Here and replace Norton with say Comodo Firewall and Avast A/V each are free and work very well with Vista >>>

hey I did these and is there a way to turn off the annoying notifications from comodo??? it is actually making it slower?? also it puts processes up to 93

When installing Comodo, you are given the option to install Defense+".....it is best not to install this as it can add to processes running.
