I think it would be good for the OS market if a new companie released a new usable system. If the market keeps going on as it is, microsoft is going to own Nearly 100% of the market.

I think that Microsoft will never own 100% unless they buy out the competition - which they wont be able to do.

Even though ms is a huge company there are too many people who are against them for them to take up 100% of os's.

It's against the law to buy out competitors Unless the gov't gave then express permission, they wouldn't be able to buy everyone out anyway. (They don't have that much money anyhow).

But Windows has such a hold on the world I doubt YAOS (Yet Another OS) would make a difference unless it ran all the latest hardware (which Linux already has down), but also ran Windows apps (emulation won't do). If they can't do that, then they're in the exact same rut Linux and Mac OS (though the latter has great apps on its system to compensate).

And MS's developer tools are above any of the tools offered for any other system. This makes developing new applications easier and easier, taking up less time. Easy apps + majority of market + less time = money, so Windows is a good choice for software companies.

I think it's this hold that must be broken before Microsoft's tight grip on the OS world is loosened any. Mac OS is certainly close these days.

I wish they would come out with an os as long as it is easy to navigate and has a simple user interface, cause windows freakin sucks

I HOPE the rumors are true. I've been searching around and can't find anything that confirms the talk of a Google OS, but I REALLY hope it happens. I really dislike Windows (although the thought of using a Mac OS is incomprehensible for me). I want to start working with Linux, although as I'm a bit of a hopeless case when it comes to technology (hence why I joined this forum, to learn something). But if Google released an OS and it was linux/unix based, it would really inspire me to figure the stuff out. Mostly because I'm a google fanatic. With the exception of Google Maps, I love everything they do.

If Google made their own Linux distro, then it would probably be "newbie friendly".

There are already distros that take a lot of the hard stuff out of running Linux, so don't be afraid to try it. Ubuntu is very user friendly, you shouldn't need to learn much to start using it as you use your current Windows machine. It's when you pass out of just surfing the web and checking email, and into the realm of a 'power user' where you need to start learning some new tricks.

Hey if it happens, i'd sure try it. Linux is very secure and i'm sure Google will keep that clear in mind second to functionality^^

Most likely it'd be Linux...hopefully...

Well since the topic started a year or so ago, it was talked about; but if I remember correctly, they have apparently decided not to continue doing an OS...but I could be wrong.

I believe you're right, it was 100% rumor Though they do have their own OS for managing their own systems and clusters, but nothing they are about to release.
