Is there any Mac user here? Now with the Boot Camp software, Windows XP SP2 can be installed on Intel-based Mac computers.

Although why a Mac user would use XP instead of the Mac OS is something I have yet to figure out.

Not a Mac user, but will be soon

As for the why: It's not Windows instead of Mac OS, it's in addition to Mac OS I'm planning on getting a mac laptop which wouldn't have been an option if I was unable to run Windows (there are certain things I still need, afterall).

If you Boot Camp Mac and Windows, expect to have a lot of driver issues...naturally. I don't own a mac but i love both windows and mac...though I do find it odd that they would have their competitor's product being made compatibile on THEIR machines lol.

I'm a fan of Windows and Linux, but I've always steered a little clear of Macs.

The MAC/Windows thing always confuses me . . . what's the point of getting a Mac if you want to use a Windows OS? It just confuses me.

Normally (well in college) we used Macs for video editing...it's just more powerful...otherwise, I wouldn't use one much.

According to review Boot Camp is pretty good, some people tested games and were able to get 10FPS upgrades on major one

I've figured, there are programs that are compatible only with Windows. But you are right, 64-Bit Man, Microsoft now has almost 100% control of the market--including Mac users.

Well it is of course a bit of control, but I think that it's also quite beneficient, some Mac user did want to play with some windows-only app :\

The reason why Mac had released boot camp was the restrictions Microsoft makes. Code wise (intel) macintosh would be able to run any application on Windows if it where not restricted. This is, of course, understandable because otherwise it would drain the windows market. Through Boot-camp mac users can use any windows program, that would usually not run on a mac thought restriction. Plus Gates gets the credit because it is still his operating system running it. I am a cross-system user and through my experience software that runs on a os X appear to work more efficiently and has in reality all the software you require to do practically everything, not to mention the ability of switching files from one program to another in a breeze. Sure BootCamp is an eye catcher but it is not a longtime resolve. The major reason for boot camp: Popularity at first glance = Money. If you are planing to play games get a pc or even better a console. If you are looking for reliabliliy, profession, or multi tasking between platforms get a mac. Period.

There are no restrictions MS makes per-se. The only thing that keeps Windows programs from not working on Macs now that Macs are using the Intel architecture are the software libs. Windows-only programs are built using Microsoft libraries. It would be stupid of MS to create platform-independent libs to work cross-platform. Similarly, you won't see Apple make a Cocoa port for Windows for example.

The reason why Apple were the ones to make Boot Camp themselves is because the new Intel-macs use a newer technology called EFI. Microsoft has said it will not support EFI booting on 32bit chips, so for now you'll need to rely on Boot Camp to install Windows on Apple hardware. If Windows supported EFI booting, then you could install Windows on Apple hardware without any problems at all (other then lack of drivers for Apple-specific hardware).

Back on topic though: I'm more interested in running Parallels now instead of using Boot Camp.
