hey all i really need some help, i was attempting to edit my bios settings so that my computer would recognize the windows XP disc i had in the drive as i wanted to format my computer

i basically changed it to what i believe was making the cd-rom drive the priority drive to boot up from on loading (or something similar), im guessing this was a bad idea as when i saved the settings the computer screen went blank and the computer started sounding a siren type of sound, i pressed the restart button on the actual computer but nothing happened. The siren continued and i had to turn of the actual mains power socket to stop it! Now the computer WONT TURN ON AT ALL!

ANY HELP WOULD BE REALLY APPRECIATED AS I AM PRITTY CONCERNED AND HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO

Regards
Chris

Changing the boot priority shouldn't have done anything like that. Actually, changing almost anything in the BIOS should not make the computer unbootable.

The beeping -- is there a pattern? Try to locate your motherboard manual or find it online. The beeps usually do mean something, and if you can find out what it is, then things will be a lot easier to troubleshoot.

I think trying to clear the BIOS/CMOS settings is worth a try. If you can find your motherboard manual and see how to do this, great. Otherwise a common method you can try: open up the computer and look for a small little battery the size of a watch battery. Remove it for a couple minutes and put it back -- this should will reset everything to factory defaults. Try to boot after that.

They can make computers that can take us to space, perform deleicate surgery, and convert dreams into reality - And then it all comes down to a tiny battery!

Boy - I think that should keep the Energizer bunny in good spirits!
