jeiler writes "Ars has the details on an RIAA strategy to double the cost of settling copyright infringement suits for students who try to quash the group's subpoenas in court. In a nutshell: settle early, pay $3,000; try to quash the subpoena and the settlement cost rises to $8,000."

E.G.-> CA (Computer Associates) lists a ware I wrote, years ago (2000), for helping folks with (then in those days) apps that do NOT "run invisibly", such as older models of Apache Webserver (did not run as a service back in the day) & I wrote it for a gent who asked for it on a forums (figuring he & others could use it for "the good", in this capacity)... Well, what happened? Around 2002, CA decides to list it as a potentially "bad app" (though its 'threat level' & other things are @ ZERO threat, it is still here): http://ca.com/ca/en/securityadvisor/...x?id=51276#top The part that upset me? They list it as my MIDDLE NAME + LAST NAME (not my full name, or I would have found it YEARS ago)... (That, is b.s., & that IS libel, as far as I am concerned, by all means, dirtying MY good name - & no one is going to tell me this was NOT intentional on their part, because any programmer or even virus researcher would have noted via right-click on .exe properties lists, the vendor name, & it is my FULL name there, inclusive of my initials being in its name!) BIG MI$TAKE CA! (Upon speaking to attorneys about this, they advised that FIRST, I go thru CA's b.s. on their "vendor appeals" page -> http://www.ca.com/us/securityadvisor...aspx?cid=67989 ) I did so, weeks ago, no answer... I violate NONE of their points-of-criteria either... my app IS harmless, just like a gun, depending on the apps you make it load (that is the type of 'bullet' for said gun)... Heck - PING.EXE is MORE DANGEROUS (ala its "ping of death")... I also looked @ their criteria? If an app alters the HOSTS file, they list it as dangerous... SO, that said?? Why isn't SPYBOT S&D in there too then, alongside PING.EXE??? Big money & Big companies... they're after 1 THING: Ca$h & competitive advantage, no matter if its b.s. & false advertising - they figure "APK is just a smallfry, we can 'push him around'"... ,,, & boy, do they have a HUGE $urpri$e coming! APK P.S.=> Giving them a reasonable amount of time to respond back, play by THEIR RULES, first... & then, play by MY rules, & they WON'T like it! apk
