Abhinav Peddada writes "Ars Technica takes the latest from Opera's stable — Opera 9.5 for a test run and finds some interesting results, including it being a "solid improvement to an already very strong browser." On the performance front, Ars Technica reports "Opera 9.5 scored slightly higher (281ms) than the previous released version, 9.23 (546ms). And Opera 9.x, let it be known, smacks silly the likes of Firefox and Internet Explorer, which tend to have results in the 900-1500ms range on this test machine (a 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo with 2GB RAM). Opera was 50 percent faster on average than Firefox, and 100 percent faster than IE7 on Windows Vista, for instance.""Read more of this story at Slashdot.

Heck yea!
![]() It's truth, & has been, for QUITE a while & STILL IS! In fact? See these URL's, for more backing/substantiating proof thereof in fact: ---- BROWSER SPEED COMPARISONS ACROSS MULTIPLE OS PLATFORMS: http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/browserSpeed.html ---- Opera 9.50 also 'outshines-the-competition' as well in JavaScript processing speeds: http://nontroppo.org/timer/kestrel_tests/ ---- * NOW, supposedly? FF3 has made HUGE strides here (javascript parsing & processing speeds, lately, & MAY be faster than Opera 9.27, but I am guessing NOT SO on latest newly released FINAL Opera 9.50, which this post is about (while it was in beta that is))... APK P.S.=> Security-wise though (in a check of which browser bears the LEAST known security holes)? Opera wins, hands-down, NO CONTEST! WEB-BROWSER PROGRAM KNOWN SECURITY ISSUES & UNPATCHED ONES BY PERCENTAGES BY SECUNIA.COM (data from 06/16/2008): ---- Opera 9.27 + 9.50 security advisories @ SECUNIA (0% unpatched): http://secunia.com/product/10615/?task=advisories ---- FireFox 2.0.0.14 security advisories @ SECUNIA (13% unpatched): http://secunia.com/product/12434/ ---- IE 7 (latest cumulative update from MS) security advisories @ SECUNIA (32% unpatched): http://secunia.com/product/12366/ ---- Those %'s are the latest for:
So, as you can see? Well, NOT ONLY IS OPERA MORE SECURE/BEARING LESS SECURITY VULNERABILITIES? It's faster too, on just about ANYTHING a browser does, & is probably the MOST standards compliant browser under the sun (not counting HTML dev tools) in it having passed ACID2/3 (one of them before ANYONE, iirc, the latter newer test in fact)... apk
