I have a small problem: My PC does not seem to realize where I am or what the current time is... even though I keep telling it! I am in the Eastern Standard Time Zone of the U.S. I have set the daylight savings adjustment to automatic (checked the box). So why does my machine keep insisting that I'm in Central Time?! For instance, right now it's 7:32 pm, but if I restart my machine it will say it's 6:32.
I never had this problem before, and my old machine has no problem. What in the heck could be happening?

Are you seeing anything in event log errors ? Oh and are you on a domain ?, and you may find This useful

I'm guessing that you hit apply after setting the time.

There's a third tab to sync your PC with internet time. You may have to make sure you right the right time zone selected and then go to that internet tab and click update now.

I think I've got it working now. I tried the sync thing and it didn't seem to work. Maybe my PC was just having a bad day. Anyway, it's ok now and I'm hoping it's past the confusion.

No, I really didn't, but it's working now so I won't "kick a sleeping dog." However, if it acts up again I'll look a little deeper into it.

Ok, my clock is acting up again, so I did a little research. Here's just one of Many reports that I've found - and still no real resolution.

If I try to get a fix from Microsoft I get an error: your system is already updated. Argh! Finally I found an update page that tells me I have to uninstall XP SP3 before getting the update!! I saw a place to turn off the synchronization but I'll have to find it again. After that I'll just do it by hand. Thank you very much, Microsoft! (not!)
