IE7 will be available as an automatic update, which is optional, as well as a free download. It is currently a beta 3 release. IE7 is supposed to deal with security issues in IE6 and has been called a "high security" patch for IE6. Looking at Microsoft's IE page, there are a lot of add-ons to IE7, including a phishing filter. Now that is nice, isn't it?

Nice, yes... Still doesn't beat alternate browsers like FF or Opera though (in my opinion).

I installed the beta for my dad on his laptop because it still is about 100% more secure then IE6

Was a joke I think

Honestly though, I am quite pleased with the progress MS is making with IE7. Not too impressed with the standards support, but at laest things are locked down now.

A lot of Firefox users who have happened to try IE7 say that IE7 made a lot of changes that imitate Firefox. The icons, for one. I got to look at some screenshots and I must agree the icons look like those in Firefox, so much different than the layout and icons that I see this moment in IE6.

Chroder, does IE7 slow down your father's computer or browsing? Someone said it slowed his computer, so I am thinking twice of the upgrade. The enhanced security might convince me, though.

No, it runs quite smoothly from what I can see.

As for copying... Well, there's nothing new there. Everyone copies everyone else It's hard to fault them for including features that users obviously want.

IMO, the IE7 Beta 3 is much worse than the other two. The third was extremely unstable for me. I'll stick with my Firefox 2 Beta 1.

I have both IE7 and Firefox and I definitely prefer firefox. dont get me wrong, ie7 is a huge improvement, but to me it still doesnt compare, even though they have tried to make it as much like firefox as they can. and about ie slowing my computer down....... i just pulled it up to test it and yes it does.
