I wish people wouldn't download this stuff ... whether it be free wallpapers, toolbars or screensavers. This kind of software can contain all different types of malware, so please do not download and install this kind of software.
If you do, then be prepared to fork out time and/or money to have your computer "debugged".

I agree that there have been lots of viruses and malware spread via free wallpapers, toolbars, and such. However, there is some freeware and shareware that have been proven or tested virus or malware free and are very helpful to others.

I think that most people just don't check the source before downloading. They see it, it shines, and they click the download button.

Check it out first!

Dave

Hey who doesnt like shiny stuff right. People liking shiny stuff keeps me having computers to work on. Me likee shiny stuff.

But seriously Dave makes a good point. I use some freeware and shareware on my comp but I only use it from reliable sources. If people would think before they download, the computer world would be a lot simpler.

The problem is not with freeware or shareware but with malicious software. There are many bad software programs that cost money.

Everyone should do a little research before installing anything.

Dave is right on the money. The source will help the user know whether the download is safe or not.
