Oh, I forgot to mention. You can ^^ Though you can do this in FF2, all you need to do is:

Type: "about:config" into the URL bar and press enter.
Find: "browser.tabs.tabMinWidth" - This is the minimum width of the tabs, by default it's 100 pixels, but you can play about.
Now find: "browser.tabs.tabClipWidth" - This is the minimum width the tabs need to be to show the close button, by default it's 140 pixels.
