I got a Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 4000 today for my laptop. Put the install CD in, and nothing happens. A box popped up that said the AutoPlay was not responding with two options:
  1. Run the setup.exe
  2. Open the file to view
I chose 1 and nothing has happened, although it acts like it's trying to do something.

The laptop is running Vista and has plenty of room for the install.

Any suggestions?

Dave

I hadn't tried that yet, but might as well since I can't get that CD to run anyway.

Dave open the file copy drivers to desktop and install in safe mode, or use auto run from inside the file (Vista will often clash with software when you try to use it like XP)

I've got the autorun set up to ask me first. It did ask me and I told it to run the setup.exe, but it didn't do it. I also opened the disk and clicked the setup.exe file, but nothing.

The cursor will act like the machine is trying to do something, but it doesn't do anything.

I also went to the CP and tried the Install Hardware with no success. I'm not really installing any hardware since that mouse runs off a USB port.

My son has the same mouse and he just plugged it in and it worked. Tried that, too, with no success. (He's running XP.)

Thanks for the link, Cat. I already knew how to set the autorun settings, but that was still a good read.

Anyway, I switched the autorun from "ask me" to "autorun", saved the settings and put in the CD. It started up, ran the install program, and is now rebooting. It says all that I have to do now is plug in the USB receiver and it's ready to go.

Testing....

It's installing the drivers after plugging in the receiver.

Looks like it's gonna' work.

Dave

P.S. It's working great!

Why do you think that it would NOT install other than putting the drive on autorun? Is that a Vista deficiency?
