I just re-installed HL2 and started playing through the levels. Anyway, it keeps crashing at the exact same spot within a level, spouting something about not being able to read memory and gives an instruction address and a memory address.

I've made sure it's up to date, and made sure my video card drivers are up to date, but it's still happening.

Any ideas? Is there some sort of crash log that the game creates so I can investigate further?

Well I enabled the console and used the 'noclip' cheat code that lets you fly through stuff I got past the point that crashed by flyng through a couple walls, and it never crashed again. I guess it was just a corrupt game file or something.

(Also, I beat the game yesterday. )

You beat it with 'noclipping' still on? Cheat!!!

I had a place with HL and HL2 that would crash at the same spot like you mentioned. With HL, I somehow got through an area where you're not supposed to get through and that caused the game to not have the proper sequence (I used the noclipping to get past that level). On HL2, we had to get some file online to correct the problem. I can't say which one it was 'cause my youngest son is the one that found it.

No, not with noclipping on

I've never beat HL. I borrowed it from a friend a few years back but it never wanted to work with Windows XP. I've never looked into it, there's probably an update or some such.

I played HL on Windows 98 2nd, then went to XP with HL2. I remember when I first found out about the console, too. I didn't know about it when we first got the CD.

I like the controls better on the console. Its one of the rare situations where I would say that over playing on a PC instead. I guess i've just played it so long on the XBOX that it feels weird to me on a PC.
