Yea - I once saw some reme spanner job forget to turn a gas axe off an leave it agenst the cylinder we where picking him out of our uniform about 10 seconds later. Took him out 3 landrovers an a perfectly good repare bay an seriously hurt some of the other lads in the area.

What do you do for a living? It sounds like some hard work (are you in construction of somekind? I ask, because I stand to learn something here is all... "live & learn" not a wasted day, if you even only learn 1 new thing imo)

See, I have NO CLUE what a "reme spanner" is, is why mostly (heck, I also don't know what a "gas axe" is either)

nope it was back in my army days reme stands for royal electrical an mechanical engineers, (not my unit) they lived on our base to make mods to a set of landrovers we constantly destroyed or had upgraded to so specialist task's.

I am a IT consultant / engineer (not my army job) self employed but i just got offerd a job to sweet to miss out on so I am most likely selling my company to a member of staff.

Oh an thanks, i only ask for that when i see quality after quality in posts.

Well, I'm on the lookout for a better source of income than I have now, & that means cutting my hair, buying some new threads, etc. et al - I have a few goals I want to get to this year, & to do it? Well, today (since it is "technically today", albeit, just after midnite here)?

All this hair on my head (longer than in my avatar/userphoto here @ this point now) is going to be GONE "with the dawn" - because today I am cutting it ALL off!

(Yes, I am going back to "short hair" (easier to take care of, BY FAR, & is cooler in this summer heat too - plus, as noted in my last reply to Saxon above? It's new job hunting time, & that means SHORT hair (the corporate world doesn't tolerate long hair very well, usually, @ least for the 'better paying jobs', typically))

Downside of short hair of course, means more "cuts" regularly, which of course = money, usually!

(Well - depending on the "do" I get that is - LOL, for example? See - if I go with a "buzzcut" though? Heck, I have my own shears & the guides for them, from 4 down to zero (near skin level one) & can save some bucks on haircuts via THAT route & it's not so bad: I've done it before, looked ok (not great, but, what can you do?)).

I'll figure it out by the "A.M." around sunrise when I get up, as to HOW short it's going to be is all...

Yea knowledge is power, an your right it's good to have a contact even if they are on the other side of the planet. You wont belive some of the places i deal with who think it's a good idea to have there IT department in the USA an a large office in the UK. Dealing with some of the yanks in US tech support is good fun but others oh boy... the guy who tried to tell me ram was hot swappable made me want to beat him to death with a rack mount spark server.

There was some fun to be had afterwards though I got to sit in on a phone conference with this shrub an when i brought it up the guy made some comment that oh "yea we wont have any down time there" when we where talking about them deploying a whole slew of new hardware system wide.... his boss thought it was so funny he got lambasted so hard an for so long I kinda felt sorry for him.

Buzzed my head Sunday and got it a little red yesterday in the sunshine. Oops! I had my doo rag on for the longest time, but off when I was in the ocean. Today is kinda' rough and I'm watching the condo while everyone's out on the beach.

My 2 sons will be parasailing here in about an hour. I'll watch from the balcony.

I did so w/ sepulchre & he made me realize I made a STUPID mistake!

(I.E.-> In oddly only 1 loop of 4, in a program I am writing uses)

My "error" was in variable type declaration, stupid one, I think it was a typo on my end, because I declared it properly in ALL other loops, except 1, but a crucial one in my SLOWEST routine (normalization of HOSTS files data records lines)...

(The "err/abend" wouldn't even be one, thus, users would NEVER realize it or see a bug, it was more of a perfomance issue - & every LITTLE bit, helps, especially in this program (since it deals in string processing, very CPU expensive/intensive - & even though I am using the FASTEST & MOST EFFICIENT PROGRAMMING TOOLS THERE IS FOR IT (e.g.-> Delphi, Assembler code, & Win32 API calls)? There is NO SUBSTITUTE for a solid design & algorithm/engine))

Thus, by speaking w/ he, asking questions on design in various capacities? I caught something I would NOT have, w/ out heeding his warnings.

You KNOW why, don't you? It costs them less to outsource, than maintain internal employee bases with the insurances they need to carry & more... this would be MY guess as to WHY this goes on... the answer, 9/10 times = MONEY!

Well, you've got to keep in mind that @ that level? The truly "Super-Powered Techs" aren't USUALLY there (unless they can't find a better job & have to take a level I/II tech support job to make bills)

He's probably relatively new, trying to "prove himself" is all... sometimes, that bites you in the behind, trying TOO hard etc. (that'd be my guess here, too bad, I wouldn't have liked hearing it either).
