iMac Arrived

Many of you already know, but I thought I definitely need to post about it.

I ordered my iMac a couple weeks ago, and then this Monday it finally arrived! You can view my [bad] photos of the unveiling here: Index of /wp-content/uploads/2006/imac

I am really loving it

I am already using the Mac more then I use my PC, besides for work. I still have to get my work environment set up on the Mac, which I'll probably do this weekend.

The only thing that I am needing to get used to is the keys. Programming on a PC has got me used to quick ways of select/navigating text (ie. CTRL+arrow key to move around words). On the mac the CTRL, OPTION and CMD keys are used and it's taking a while to get used to

Instead of CTRL+BACKSPACE to delete a word, I use OPTION+BACKSPACE etc.

But everything is really smooth and really easy. I would definitely get a Mac for my parents as an alternative to their PC. I would welcome a break from cleaning spyware

For anyone who has their eye on a Mac -- do it. You can not go wrong. Everything just works out of the box, and you can even choose to run Windows with Bootcamp if you really really want to. And there are no shortage of applications. You can find all of the popular programs like Skype and Firefox etc. available for the mac, and then there are alternatives that are usually better. For example, on the PC I used to use Trillian as my all-in-one chat client but Adium for the Mac is better IMO. All of this combined with the nice underlying Unix-ish system makes it a win-all

Psh, my Core 2 Duo is just as good

I would go for a Mac, but I like video games too much. However, for a laptop, MacBook Pro's look pretty nice (the non-exploding variety).

Congrats on the arrival of your new baby!

You really liked the suspense, huh? After several of the carton, then in the wrap, then out! Woot! Looks nice.

I take it that you're really impressed with it. And switching over to it for everything, too!

I hardly ever play video games these days, so that wasn't a factor for me. For me it's all about the productivity and entertainment (video/music kind). And so far, Mac has my PC beat
