hmmm looks good so far, let's hope it'll grow with the popularity of your blog. that chap had a good idea about colours, but i believe, as long as the content is fresh, and you can harness enough interest, colors do not really matter.. well it may in the vreality of it, but hell... its not the only thing that sets the community apart. try to watch out for http://www.techvibes.com/ as a start

great to see you finally launch a new forum of your own. 6 other people beat me here, where were our personal pre-launch invitations?

Hi AA nad ian

Well, I'm not even close to done so I didn't want to publicize it too much

I'm working on a cool a new forumhome that will show popular threads alongside the forum cats. I'm borrowing the same aspects from Digg.com and BlogCadre.com where the users are the ones who get to choose which threads make it to the front page. So when a user sees a thread they like, they choose "Digg It" (not really 'Digg It' I haven't found a better term yet and I don't want to totally steal Digg's method lol), and when enough people have done it, it will appear on the frontpage. The whole thing about public-moderation is really cool to me, and I think the users like it too (else Digg and BlogCadre wouldn't be too popular).

I think it's going to be really cool.

I really like that idea with the most popular threads appearing on the homepage, but I somehow think it would be better if administrators/moderators got to choose which threads were deemed newsworthy enough to appear on the front page.

No way, giving the users the choice of what to push to the front page is way better IMO. They get to choose what they like, not what a handful of mods or admins think everyone will like.

However, I'm creating a "power" system where different usergroups have more sway.

For example, let's say on Day X a thread requires 200 "points" to reach the homepage (depending on the amount of users online / the number of people choosing to "push" a story, this point requirement will change day to day to cope with popularity. There would be a problem if there were only 3 users online on one day, but a story still needed 200 points to be pushed etc). A new user with <10 posts might have a power of 1, each new push from that kind of user would count 1 point.

So mods and admins might have a power 50, high posting users might have a power of 20, active users maybe 5 or 10, new users just 1.

I think with a system like that, it will encourage a thriving community where everyone contributes in some way.

well that sounds like a better system, dont want users pushing spam to the main page or silly threads. Perhaps it can require final authority from the administrator before it appears.
By the way, when I try to edit a post, I get an error message, I am only able to edit it if I click on the go advanced button.

Yeah, I removed an ID from the template HTML I think which is required for the "Quick Edit".

You actually get an error message though? In FF it just doesn't update (though it's there after a page refresh). I'm ginna try this in IE and check it out.

// Edit
Oh, a generic Javascript error. Yeah, I get that too I'll fix it one of these days...
