It was estimated that the damage would be 10s of millions of pounds. Hope y'all were far enough away to remain safe. It is sad to think of those victims.

It felt like someone gave my chair a tug but there was no damage to speak of in the south.

My house is actually built on a fault line & quite often (in the scheme of things...couple times a year, perhaps) I'm woken up in the early hrs by a deep rumbling - very, very much like when a heavy truck drives past outside your house (you know, that kind of very subtle shudder through the floor). Of course, no heavy trucks ever drive past my house, too rural, next stop the beach.

That's why many if not most houses here are built out of wood. Doesn't hurt as much as brick when it falls in on you

So you might be living on the beach sometime...hopefully not in the ocean?

well - I do live on a hillside (as if 'just' on a faultline wasn't enough)...but probably 20 mins drive from the beach so in terms of distance, I'd say I'm never going to actually move to the beach, but I suppose there IS a possibility that I might end up at ground level
