I'm surprised I haven't seen this posted here yet...

So October 3rd 2006 (which was for some of us today, for others yesterday) was "Day Against DRM". DefectiveByDesign.org is spearheading this campaign to shut down DRM before it can take an unstoppable hold.

Quote:
DRM technology is a growing problem for all computer users, by extension all of society. DRM is typically used to restrict individuals' use of their own copies of published works. To enforce these restrictions, DRM software, and now hardware, must monitor and control a computer users' behavior. Frequently it reports on what it sees.
You can read more about DRM at What is DRM? Digital Restrictions Management | DefectiveByDesign.org.

I'm interested in what you all think about DRM. Dreamhost has taken a stance against it, which is to be appluaded, even though I don't like Dreamhost at all :P.

Personally I am against it, if I purchase something I expect it to be mine to do with as I please, as long as I don't violate copyright law. Not being able to transfer a song I download to a different portable device is to me unacceptable, which is why I have never and will never use iTunes.

So what do you all think?

I agree with you (you can read more about my views in our internet piracy debate).

If we buy something then we should have total access to it. These corporations are limiting us more then we ever were!
