My dad has a miniature vaccum that sucks in all the dust instead of blowing it into the components. I'm sure they sell these little vaccum's in stores. It's even got brushes along the edge for those hard to reach areas.

i just hover mine out every so often and it is advised to have your computer off the floor just a small platform (1-4") off the floor really reduces the amount of dust you get in the computer

my old computer was on the floor and i was hoovering it out every week! once i put it on a platform i only have to hoover out about 1 every 2 months...

I clean mine about once a month. The kids computers are on top of their desks and only get cleaned about every 6 months, but then their's aren't on all the time either (especially if they get themselves grounded from it!)

My Hunni's business is selling air and water purifiers. When using the air purifiers, we've noticed that more of the dust is lower to the floor. So, elevating the CPU helps it to gather less dust.

I think it would work like that naturally, like Dan said, but the air purifiers definitely make a difference in the amount of dust in the breathing space and puts the heavier stuff on the floor.

My new Rosewill case has a dust filter for the front intake fan. I read some good comments about it but since it just arrived I can't tell you how effective it is.
However, when using a vacuum cleaner it's wise to make sure everything is grounded to each other and to earth ground. Try not to get the motor too close to the components in your case. I know from my days as an electronic tech. that vacuum motors can reek havoc on VCRs, so I imagine they can't be too good for computer parts.

Very true Sepulchre, any electronic or static equipment that produces a Field should not be use or placed buy a Computer "eg" Mobile Phones placed on top of a PC case have been known to cause problems.

A friend of mine has an extractor fan in his case which seems to work. In general compressed air is better at blowing the dust out. Its most likely not a good idea using a vacuum cleaner encase a part gets damaged, same with blowing.
